CWS Door Installation: The Fort Myers Owner’s Guide

CWS door installation in Fort Myers typically runs $950 to $2,400 installed, depending on series, swing direction, and whether the slab, hardware, or full frame needs work. We stock CWS-compatible hardware and panels on our trucks, and most single-door installations are completed the same day the parts are confirmed. The way Fort Myers homeowners usually find out a CWS door has failed is quiet at first: it drags against the threshold in August, the latch stops catching cleanly, and one morning the panel simply will not square in the frame no matter how hard it is pulled.

CWS built a strong reputation in Florida impact-rated doors, and the hardware does its job when it is set correctly. The trouble is rarely the brand. It is what happens when an installer treats a CWS door like any other slab and skips the fine adjustments that these panels demand in our climate. Fort Myers humidity, morning condensation, and salt air work on hinges and rollers year round. A door that was never trued to begin with fails faster here than almost anywhere else.

We are an independent service provider, not a CWS dealer. That matters because it means we give you the straight answer on whether a part should be CWS OEM or whether a quality equivalent does the job just as well for less money. Dale Kessler has been correcting out-of-true installs in Southwest Florida for over three decades, and a CWS door that will not close is the kind of problem he would rather fix once than argue about twice.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS door lines most often seen in Fort Myers homes include the CWS Ambassador, Estate, and Signature series, along with older CWS Classic models still in service from the 1990s and early 2000s. The parts that wear are not identical across those lines. Ambassador and Estate models use a heavier hinge and roller assembly than Classic, and the strike plates on Signature series are offset a full one-quarter inch from the Classic pattern. If a homeowner orders a Classic strike for a Signature door, it will not line up no matter how many times it is adjusted.

The fastest way to identify your CWS panel is the label. On Ambassador and Signature, CWS stamps a small silver tag on the hinge edge of the slab, about knee height from the bottom. If that tag is gone (and in Fort Myers, salt air peels them off in five or six years), measure the panel thickness. CWS impact doors run a true 1-3/4 inches. Older Classic non-impact panels run 1-3/8. That single measurement tells us which generation of hardware we are dealing with before we ever touch the frame.

The OEM versus aftermarket decision for CWS is straightforward once the series is identified. For hinges, rollers, and lock bodies, we stock both CWS OEM parts and a quality aftermarket equivalent line. The aftermarket hinges hold tolerance just as well, and we pass the savings to you. For multi-point lock assemblies on Estate and Signature, we recommend OEM. The lock geometry is not something worth gambling on with a substitute, and we will tell you that on the phone before quoting.

Signs Your CWS Door Installation Is Failing

  • Panel drag at the top or bottom corner. The door has settled off its original plane, or the hinges have worn barrels that let the leaf drop. In Fort Myers, this usually shows up first in July when the wood frame has taken on humidity and the slab has less clearance than it does in January.
  • Latch requires a firm pull or shoulder bump to engage. The strike plate and latch body are no longer aligned. This is an adjustment failure more often than a worn latch. Continuing to force it just deforms the strike and loosens the jamb screws.
  • Visible rust or white corrosion at hinge knuckles and lock body screws. Salt air does this. It is not cosmetic. Corroded hinge barrels bind instead of swing, and the extra friction transfers load into the frame and pulls screws out of the jamb over time.
  • Multi-point lock only throws one of three bolts. On Estate and Signature doors, the vertical rods bend or slip over time. A single working bolt gives a false sense of security and puts the entire locking load on one point in the frame.
  • Door rattles in the frame when the wind gusts. The weatherstripping has compressed and the panel is no longer seating against the jamb stops evenly. This is the earliest warning sign of a door drifting out of true. We catch it on maintenance calls before it becomes a hinge replacement.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

CWS door installation pricing in Fort Myers breaks down this way. A single door slab replacement, using your existing frame in good condition, runs $950 to $1,400. A full door unit replacement, where we set a new pre-hung CWS-compatible unit with new frame and threshold, runs $1,600 to $2,400 depending on impact rating and glass package. Hardware-only work, such as a hinge set and lock body swap, starts around $300 and rarely goes past $600.

Scope of Work Installed Price Range
Slab replacement only (frame reused) $950 - $1,400
Full pre-hung door unit replacement $1,600 - $2,400
Hinge set and lock body replacement $300 - $600
Multi-point lock assembly (OEM) $450 - $800

Every quote is written line by line, with the parts listed separately from the labor, so you see exactly what you are paying for. Our workmanship is warrantied for one year, and both manufacturer warranty layers on any new hardware are registered in writing before our truck leaves your driveway. That is the Keystone Standard. If the pane is not true, the job is not done.

DIY or Call Us?

A homeowner can safely check three things without touching a tool: whether the door visibly drops at one corner, whether the strike plate screws feel loose, and whether the hinges show rust or wear at the knuckles. Those observations help you describe the problem to us accurately over the phone. The actual repair is where DIY goes wrong on CWS doors. Panel removal on these units is a two-person job. The impact slabs weigh well over 150 pounds, and setting one back on new hinges without scratching the frame or injuring a back is not a Saturday-morning task.

Adjusting a multi-point lock is its own profession. The rods have specific throw lengths per series, and an over-adjusted rod will bind against the strike and strip the gearbox. We have corrected enough well-intentioned DIY lock repairs in Fort Myers to say plainly: this is the one part of the door you do not want to learn on. Call (239) 323-5522 and let us price it before you open the tool drawer.

What Neighbors Say About TruePane Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"French doors to the patio, custom size because this house was built in 1961 and nothing is standard. Measured twice, three weeks to fabricate like they warned, and the install day they laid runners over my floors without being asked."

MMarie S.
★★★★★

"Whole-house window replacement at 71 years old is not something you want to do twice. Dale walked the house himself for the quote. Crew was the same three men all four days, and the foreman knew every window by room."

PPat and Ray L.
★★★★★

"Our bay window had rotted at the sill and two other outfits wanted to talk us into a flat picture window instead. TruePane rebuilt the opening and matched the original look. Neighbors have knocked on the door about it."

GGene A.
★★★★★

"Impact windows on the whole house. They handled the permit, the inspection, and gave me a folder with every approval number for the insurance company. My windstorm premium dropped enough to notice."

BBill T.
★★★★

"Quote was the price, which after three other bids that grew legs was worth something. Double-hungs went in clean, they hauled the old ones, and the registration paperwork for the warranty came in the mail like they said."

DDorothy K.
★★★★★

"Eleven windows replaced in two days. The crew chief, Marcus, showed me the level on every single frame before they caulked it. My wife noticed the street noise was gone before I did."

RRonald P.
★★★★★

"A casement crank had stripped and the sash was swollen shut. The technician, Ray, fixed the crank on the spot and only then talked about replacement for the three windows that were genuinely done. That is why the whole street uses them now."
